I am passionate about helping families find best match colleges...
As of November 2022 I will be providing consulting services on an hourly basis through the graduating class of 2025.
The first in my family to go to college, I graduated with highest distinction from the University of Maine in 1984 with a B.A. in Psychology and Zoology and from Boston College in 1987 with an M.A. in Counseling and School Psychology with a concentration in Counseling Adolescents and Adults. In 2012, I earned a Certificate in Independent Educational Consulting through the University of California, Irvine.
I have long had an interest in college and career counseling, and have worked with children, adolescents and families in various capacities since graduating from college. My experiences include vocational training and counseling, child protective services and adoption work, facilitating workshops in county schools for NJCAP (New Jersey Child Assault Prevention), working with the Boy Scouts, and serving as a Girl Scout Leader for fourteen years. I was a Readington Girl Scout Executive Board Member for 11 years and advised 10 young women as they earned their Girl Scout Gold Awards and went on to college.
I have been assisting students with college preparation and admissions since 2004 as I guided my children, their friends, and others through the process. My passion for this field led me to enroll in the Independent Educational Consultant Certificate program at the University of California, Irvine. After attending the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA) 2011 Summer Training Institute I returned home to establish Creative College Consulting, LLC.
I became an Associate Member of IECA in 2011 and a Professional Member in 2021, and am a founding member of the IECA Affinity Group, IECs Who Give Back. I was an active member of the NJ IECA Affinity Group for many years while living in NJ and am also a member of the National Association for College Admissions Counselors (NACAC).
An active U. Maine alumnus, I served as the Treasurer of the N.J. Chapter of the UMaine Alumni Association and as an Alumni Ambassador for many years until 2019, earning the U. Maine Block M Award in 2012, in part for starting a new scholarship, the NJ Black Bear Scholarship. I also have also served as a Parent Connector for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, acting as an ambassador for MIT, a resource for MIT parents, and as an administrator for various MIT Parent Facebook groups.
I grew up on Cape Cod and after 20 years in New Jersey moved back to the Cape in 2019 with my husband of 35 years (college sweethearts), our daughter, and our cats. Our son graduated from RIT in 2013 with a B.S. in Computer Engineering and is a software engineer for Sales Force in North Carolina; our oldest daughter, who was a Park Scholar at Ithaca College, graduated in 2014 with a B.S. in Cinema and Photography and a B.A. in Psychology and lives on the Cape with us; and our youngest daughter graduated from MIT in 2016 with a B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering and a minor in Applied International Studies. She earned her PhD in Materials Science and Engineering at UC Berkeley in 2021 with a designated emphasis in Nanoscale Science and minors in Material Characterization and Science Policy, spent a year as a Congressional Fellow and is now a Federal Affairs officer at Lawrence Berkeley National Labs.
I advise students locally as well as those in other states (through Skype) as they embark on their exciting journeys toward college and careers.
